During the Gold Rush in the 19th century, Virginia City was the most important settlement between San Francisco and Denver. Prospectors came from across the country to find their fortunes and millions of dollars were made finding gold in the hills. Today Virginia City is a great place for history lovers to visit and share in a bygone era. Visitors can walk on board sidewalks to view historic buildings, visit Old West saloons, museums, restaurants and shops, ride a stagecoach, trolley, and steam train and visit the old mines in the surrounding landscape. Edith Palmer’s Country Inn

Edith Palmer’s Country Inn includes a house and rock building reconstructed from an 1863 Victorian Cider Factory. The rock building is now a restaurant. An additional Victorian home has been renovated as part of the inn. The inn has indoor and outdoor settings available for events such as wedding, banquets, reunions and parties.
First Presbyterian Church

The First Presbyterian Church building dates back to 1866. The gorgeous sanctuary is full of stained glass windows and features an ornate pipe organ. The church can accommodate weddings with up to 70 guests on pews.
Gold Hill Hotel

The Gold Hill Hotel is Nevada’s oldest hotel, located one mile south of Virginia City. The hotel can accommodate up to 120 people for events including weddings, receptions, parties and business functions. The Gold Hill Hotel’s Great Room and the Crown Point Restaurant can be used independently or combined for larger events. Catering and overnight accommodations are available.
Historic Fourth Ward School

The Fourth Ward School was built in 1876. The school makes a unique setting for large and small events. The Great Hall seats 100 comfortably and makes an ideal location for receptions, banquets, meetings, luncheons and other events. The Mining Exhibit Room displays a variety of historic and educational exhibits and is located near the Great Hall. The Alumni Room seats 50 for workshops and smaller events. The Main Floor Classroom also seats 50. The First Floor Exhibit Space is a gallery that seats 30 and makes a nice location for meetings and receptions. The Third Floor Printers Room seats up to 40.
Piper’s Opera House

Piper’s Opera House is one of the most famous performance venues in the US. The Opera House was originally built in 1863, but was rebuilt twice due to fires. The current Opera House was built in 1885. The Opera House is available to rent for all sorts of events and makes a beautiful setting for a wedding.

The historic Silver Queen Hotel is located in the heart of Virginia City. The hotel has an authentic 1870s saloon and wedding chapel on the first floor. Affordable weddings can be held in the chapel. Victorian tuxes and gowns are available to rent.

St. Mary in the Mountains was built in 1869 and is currently being restored. The large church is available to rent for weddings. The historic church provides an ornate setting for events with an antique pipe organ and gorgeous architecture.

St Mary’s Art Center (SMAC) is located in a restored, four-story, brick building originally built in 1875 as a hospital. The building is available to rent for receptions and other events. The ground floor has a kitchen, two bathrooms, photography labs, a studio, a gallery, a lounging area and a large dining room. The first floor has lodging rooms, bathrooms and another gallery. The second floor has lodging rooms, a painting studio and bathroom. The attic has studio space and a gallery.
Virginia and Truckee Railroad

The Virginia and Truckee (V&T) Railroad was completed in 1869 to haul gold from Virginia City. The train offers excursion tours where guests can learn about the history of the region and the train. V&T can run a special train for events such as weddings, reunions, and corporate events. The train is also available for group tours.

The Virginia City Cemetery is actually several smaller cemeteries combined. Cemetery tours are available for individuals and groups. The cemetery makes a truly unique setting for an outdoor wedding or other events.
